Vice-premier urges speeding up innovation-driven development

During an inspection tour at Beijing’s new technology base under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Vice-Premier Liu Yandong urged more efforts to speed up innovation-driven development.

Liu stressed that China should further expand systematic reform and enhance innovative capabilities, in an effort to inject new dynamics into the economy and improve people’s lives.

Talking with scientists working at the base, she spoke highly of their contribution to the field of science and technology and major achievements in 2016, such as quantum satellite, atomic clock and clean energies, adding that their relentless efforts have pushed forward the country’s innovation to a new level.

In addition, Liu said the promotion of sci-tech innovation should be aimed at improving people’s lives in health care, food safety, poverty relief, and prevention and treatment of air pollution.

The vice-premier also said China will continue to support the construction of sci-tech innovation centers in megacities such as Beijing and Shanghai, with the goal of promoting regional cooperation on innovation.
