Premier Li meets delegation from US Congress

Premier Li Keqiang met with a delegation from the US Congress on April 10 in Beijing. This is the first Congressional delegation to visit China since members of the new Senate and House of Representatives were elected.

Premier Li said Sino-American ties have marked historical achievements since diplomatic relations were established 38 years ago. Several days ago, the meeting in Florida between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump reached some important consensuses and clarified the basic diplomatic tone to continue promoting the bilateral relationship.

China is willing to promote exchanges and dialogues with the US in various sectors and levels, and continue to boost the China-US relationship, benefiting people from both countries, the Premier said. He also welcomed more members of Congress to visit China in the future.

When answering questions from delegation members, the Premier noted that China and the US, as the largest mutual trading partners, have highly overlapped economic benefits and can definitely achieve win-win cooperation.

China is willing to join efforts with the US side to promote pragmatic progress in negotiations on the bilateral investment agreement to expand trade, investment, and local cooperation, and handle differences and frictions through dialogue and consultation, so as to achieve a more balanced development of bilateral trade relations, the Premier said.

As the world’s largest developing and developed nations, China and the United States have maintained a healthy and stable bilateral relationship, and strengthened coordination and cooperation in various fields, which are not only in line with the interests of both countries, but also contribute to global peace and prosperity, Premier Li added.

The United States regards its relations with China as its most important bilateral relationship, members of the Congressional delegation said. The US is glad to see China continue to make new achievements in its development, they said.

The US Congress is willing to strengthen communication with China and looks forward to more visits to China by members of Congress, who are expected to promote bilateral friendly exchanges and lay a solid foundation for mutual benefits and win-win cooperation, the delegates said.

Both sides also exchanged views on bilateral, international and regional issues of common concerns.
