Vice-Premier Liu Yandong urged greater efforts on children’s health development during a meeting on June 13.

While addressing the meeting, the vice-premier stressed the importance of a thorough implementation of Premier Li Keqiang’s instruction on the undertaking of children’s development, which is aimed to further promote children’s health and happiness as they grow up.

Liu pointed out that the development plan has been carried out efficiently through prioritizing children’s needs, promoting physical and mental development while enhancing children’s welfare level and optimizing their learning experience, in an effort to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

She emphasized that the plan should focus on sustainable development in fields such as daycare service and preschool education to meet new demand after the implementation of the two-child policy.

In addition, the vice-premier mentioned several other aspects that should be noted during implementation, including improving nutrition for children living in poverty-stricken areas, adopting a targeted poverty relief policy for left-behind children, establishing a safety net for children and cracking down on any illegal acts that harm children.
