Premier Li Keqiang met with a US Congressional delegation on March 27 in Beijing.

Premier Li said since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, China-US relations have been moving forward, despite a tortuous journey. President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, have held several meetings and reached important consensus on bilateral relations and cooperation.

Premier Li expressed the hope that the US Congress will play a positive and constructive role in maintaining the political and public opinion foundation for bilateral relations.

China and the US have mutually complementary economies with growing cooperation, the Premier said.

Frictions and differences may be inevitable, he added, which should be solved step by step, especially trade and economic issues.

The Premier said a trade war cannot solve problems and is also against the basic principle of trade.

China is willing to solve problems through consultations, while becoming fully prepared for any situations, he added.

Premier Li also expected the US to work with China to uphold multilateral trade rules, which are beneficial for both sides.

Members of the Congressional delegation said the China-US relationship is one of the most important bilateral ties in the world, and it is groundless for any conflicts between the two countries.

The US Congress is willing to help solve trade conflicts between the two sides in a mutually beneficial way to benefit the people of both nations through growing relations, they added.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concerns.
