On April 26 Premier Li Keqiang met with US Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, who came to China to attend the ninth China-US Transportation Forum in Beijing.
Premier Li said the development of stable and healthy China-US relations is in the interest of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community.
President Xi Jinping had several meetings and phone calls with his US counterpart Donald Trump, the Premier said, adding that the two countries should abide by the important consensus reached between the two heads of state and take a correct attitude toward bilateral relations.
As the largest developing and developed countries in the world, China and the United States share strong economic complementarities, Premier Li said.
He called on the two countries to expand consensus and manage differences based on mutual respect and equal consultation, so as to promote the steady development of bilateral relations.
Premier Li said China-US cooperation on economy and trade is mutually beneficial in nature. There is no winner in a trade conflict, which will affect the recovery process of the global economy and have an impact on the global industrial chain, the Premier added.
Dialogue and negotiation are the right ways to find solutions to current issues, he said. China is willing to resolve trade friction through talks and communication.
China will unswervingly push forward its opening-up policy and it has huge market potential. China hopes all the countries, including the US, could seize opportunities generated by China’s move to open up, said the Premier.
China is also willing to enhance pragmatic cooperation with the US in fields including transportation.
For her part, Chao congratulated China on maintaining its 6.8 percent economic growth, which indicates a powerful economy.
China and the US have held fruitful talks under the frame of the ninth China-US Transportation Forum, and exchanged views on security protection, infrastructure and autonomous driving. The US looks forward to expand cooperation in those areas, said Chao.
Now the Sino-US relationship is under an important development stage and both sides are striving to overcome difficulties they are facing, she added.
Chao expressed hopes that the two countries can achieve positive results in economic and trade dialogues.
