“Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Indonesia is a historic moment,” noted Irfan, head of the China bureau of the Indonesia News Agency.

Premier Li arrived in Jakarta on May 6 for an official visit to Indonesia, the first stop on his first overseas trip since China’s new cabinet took office in March.

“This is a special moment for enhancing bilateral relations between China and Indonesia, and for promoting strategic development and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region,” the Jakarta Post wrote.

Actually, the visit is just at the right time: 2018 marks the fifth anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Indonesia, as well as the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.

“This visit will be the beginning of a new type of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries,” Indonesian scholar Varandi commented.

“China’s commitment to promoting projects involved in the Belt and Road Initiative benefits local people, which will be a model for other cooperation between the two countries,” he added.

It is also of positive significance to the China- ASEAN relationship.

“Premier Li’s visit will continue to strengthen the cooperation between China and Indonesia along the Belt and Road. It will also play a demonstrative role in the ASEAN region, promoting relevant cooperation between China and other member countries,” the International Daily News in Indonesia commented.
