SHIJIAZHUANG — More than 13,000 hectares of trees will be planted in the upstream region of Baiyangdian Lake of Xiongan New Area from 2018 to 2025, the provincial government of Hebei said on Aug 9.
According to the provincial afforestation committee, a total of 13,333 hectares of trees will be planted on both sides of the upstream rivers at a width ranging from 100 to 1,000 meters. The greening rate in the region will be 90 percent by 2025.
The local agricultural bureau said it had released over 40 million shrimp seeds into the lake to recover its fishery resources, improve the ecological environment and increase the incomes of local fishermen.
Ecological restoration in Baiyangdian Lake, the largest wetland ecosystem in north China, has been reinforced since Xiongan New Area was set up in 2017.
