State councilor meets with Japanese official

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Toshihiro Nikai, secretary general of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, to talk about bilateral ties on Aug 31 in Beijing.

Wang Yi urged both sides to safeguard the political basis for the healthy development of bilateral relations, to not forget their original aspiration, and to review their promises. He also called on the two countries to advance bilateral relations with the times, and to jointly promote the building of the East Asia Economic Community.

Echoing the Chinese side’s remarks, Nikai said the friendly development of Japan-China relations has made contributions to Asia and the world. He said Japan is willing to work with China to maintain the current positive momentum to contribute to the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.
