China doubles number of average public library collections

BEIJING — Chinese enjoy increasing amount of public library resources as the number of collection materials per capita in public libraries roughly doubled between 2010 and 2018.
The number has continuously increased from 0.46 in 2010 to 0.74 in 2018, according to a statistics communique released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on May 30.
China has 3,176 public libraries in 2018, ten more than the previous year. More than 1.03 billion collection items were made available in public libraries in 2018, up 7 percent year-on-year, according to the government statistics.
The number of total visits to public libraries rapidly increased to more than 820 million people, up 10.2 percent year-on-year, said the communique.
